Walgreens is an amazing place to shop. You can score great deals on everything from beauty items to food items for just pennies. But you have to know what to look do. Here are five tips that can help you save big at Walgreens.
#1 – Balance Reward Program
This is the foundation for saving at Walgreens. You need a Balance Reward Card to earn points when you shop at Walgreens. The card is free and you can sign up in store or online. Points are earned each week from special deals offered in the weekly ad. Points are like money – 1,000 points equals $1.00. You can then redeem these on future points. Each time you check out scan your card to make sure you are getting everything you should.
#2 Register Rewards
Register Reward (RR) deals change each week too. For example, the ad may say – Buy 2 Suave hair products earn $2 register reward. This means if you purchase 2 Suave shampoos a register reward is going to print at the end of the transaction. This works like cash too. Simply redeem the register rewards on your next purchase. Register Rewards usually expire within 2 weeks.
You can usually do a Register Reward deal as many times as you want but you have to do separate transactions or alternate products. The Suave scenario about gave you $2 RR. If you do it again but use the Suave RR another will not print. But if you alternate products it will.
Buy 2 Suave – get $2 RR
Buy 1 Colgate Toothpaste – get $1.50 RR – pay with Suave RR.
Buy 2 Suave – get $2 RR – Pay with Colgate RR
#3 – Coupons
Manufacturer coupons can really save you big at Walgreens. You can use coupons with deals that give back points and with deals that earn you Register Rewards. This is where you can often get items for practically nothing. Using our scenario above it might look something like this:
Buy (2) Suave shampoos @ $1.50 each ($3.00)
Use (2) $0.75/1 Suave Shampoo
Out of pocket = $1.50
Get a $2 Register Reward
Final Cost: you make $0.50 on the deal
#4 – Store Coupons
Walgreens puts out a monthly coupon booklet which you can find at the front of the store. You don’t even have to cut these out. Just show whichever one you are using to the cashier and she will scan it. It will come off all applicable items in the basket. They also have coupons you can load onto your Walgreens app. Some are store coupons and some are manufacturer. Score big when you use a store coupon with a manufacturer coupon on the same product. This is called stacking.
#5 – Clearance Deals
Whenever you are in Walgreens always walk the aisles and check for clearance. You can use coupons on clearance items. Many times this makes the item free, or very close to it.
#6 Rebate Apps
Don’t forget to use your rebate apps at Walgreens. Just add your card number to your accounts. Checkout51, Ibotta and SavingStar all offer deals for Walgreens.
